Consuming Processed Foods Speed Cognitive Decline

A recently published research study shows the link between consumption of processed foods and increased cognitive decline. A higher percentage of daily energy consumption of ultraprocessed foods was associated with cognitive decline among adults from an ethnically diverse sample. These findings support current public health recommendations on limiting ultraprocessed food consumption because of their potential harm to cognitive function.

Eating foods that are fresh and not packaged is recommended to protect our mental capabilities as we age. Shopping around the outside of the grocery store is a good way to keep out the processed foods, as usually this is where the refrigeration is available and the foods contain fewer chemicals and preservatives.
